The adventures of Wooly

By Wooly

A big job for me today

Today LadyWL & I took her OH for a pre Birthday treat. The treat was a tour of the St Austell brewery. The tour was very interesting but I had to be very careful as there was lots of wet floors & pipes to step over.

Since Walter Hicks founded St Austell Brewery over 160 years ago, brewing fine ales has been a family industry passed down through the female line of the family. The brewery is at the top of St Austell; overlooking the bay & is aptly named The Victorian Tower Brewery.

We saw the brewing process from malting to packing of the award-winning casks and bottled ales such as Big Job, Proper Job, Tribute etc. We climbed a lot of stairs to see the whole process. We all partook of a little sampling of the ales ( it would be rude not too) & enjoyed some bottled ales we wouldn't normally see in the shops!

Unfortunately there was some confusion on the way home. We ended up taking a bus trip to Fowey & a round trip back to St Austell before we came home to Mevagissey.

I hope ewe get a chance to try a Big Job one day too :-)
