Welted Thistle - Revisited

Welted Thistle - Carduus crispus

I went back to the woods where I had seen the welted thistle before and discovered that it is really quite common so in the past it must have been a failure of my observational skills.

Close examination of a number of specimens revealed that tose growing at the edge of the woods in strong sunlight were indeed very prickly plants with strong spines. Those further into the woods growing in shade with only a slight dappling of sunlight, had much larger and softer leaves as described on my previous blip on the 20th.

I originally colour-popped this, leaving only the magenta petals, but preferred it this way with green foliage but a monochrome background.
