The Wall

Today Berlin had mixed weather shifting between clouds and occasional sun to full on rain. It turned quickly from one to the other but temperatures remained well in the 20s so all you really needed was a lightweight coat to throw on.

We took the S-Bahn into the city and found a side street bakery for lunch. We then headed for "Exit Berlin"', a live escape game. We were placed in a fully furnished room and had an hour to complete our "mission". Using our skillfulness, creativity and intelligence we had to follow limited instructions to solve a series of puzzles and challenges. We did really well and very nearly cracked it within the hour but just crept over by a couple of minutes. It was great fun but I won't tell anymore in case you decide to visit.

After that we went over to the Berlin Wall Memorial at Bernauer Strasse which extends for around 1.4km of the former border strip. Lots to see here and read as well as a couple of films to watch to better understand the wall and its history.

From here we took a tram ride to the East Side Gallery described as a memorial for freedom. It's a 1.3km long section of the wall decorated by 105 paintings by artists from across the world. We walked the first section before the rain really started to fall so made a run for cover and the train home. Lots of graffiti art in this area (the blip was taken here although not part of the wall) and some of it was really well done.

Last full day in Berlin tomorrow, it's gone so fast.
