Climate Change starts here

On an oppressively hot summer day in Washington DC, we participated in a protest urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to stop the development of a liquified gas export facility in southern Maryland - Covepoint. The development of this facility would dramatically increase the demand for fracked natural gas. The process of fracking involves fracturing rock formations that contain natural gas so that the gas escapes from the rock, and much of it is leaked into the atmosphere and into ground water. People in communities where this is happening have can light the water coming out of their faucets on fire!

We need to stop increasing demand for fossil fuels and exacerbating climate change for the sake of future generations. Unfortunately, it feels like the rails have been greased and this facility is a done deal. We were there with hope that the Obama administration will do the right thing.

In this photo, a puppet theatre group was performing the "Yellow Submarine" song with lyrics re-written, something about FERC is a rubber stamp machine. I hope they're wrong.
