Genoese bridge near Ota, Corsica

A very hot day. Hanne Lene was tired and spent several hours reading by the pool and doing the odd length. Managed to persuade her later to come on an outing to the Spelunca Gorge.

The trail follows an old mulepath into the mountains along the course of the Porto river. Here there are some delightful clear mountain pools. We went for a swim in one of them. The water is like silk, clear and smooth, with a fresh mineral tang to it.

During the spring thaw, this stream can become a raging torrent, as the water spills down the mountains from a great altitude. I imagine that is why the stonemasons of old built these arched bridges to such a height.
