My Life With Luna

Red Admiral Butterfly

This handsome species was on absorbing the warmth from a sundial this afternoon and kept still long enough for me to photograph it. Apparently it was formerly called 'Red Admirable' butterfly. It is widespread and arrives from the Mediterranean during May. It's body length is 32mm. It feeds on garden flowers, sap from trees and fallen fruit. Only a few survive winter.
