Cornwall, day 7. A greeting from St Ives

Anniemay and I have day off from the gallery today. So we have a bit of an explore of the area away from the main beaches and the busy town. Anyone who’s familiar with St Ives will know just how steep the streets are as they run up from the harbour; after 6 days I’m managing to get up most of these hills without pausing for breath all the time.

The sun is out and the main beach in front of the Tate Gallery is packed. Yet just a few hundred yards away is this small cove, empty…. or so it seems.

A lone surfer spots us sitting up on the rocks high above and marks out this greeting with his surfboard. Then with a wave (hand gesture) he paddles off, presumably to catch the other sort of wave.
