Life's Little Moments

Trash-talking in the nectar garden...

With no apology, I'm going with another hummingbird today. Most of my shots of hummers are in-flight because .. well, that is how they spend most of their time! They perch only briefly and usually from a perch where they can see all of their "enemies". This one was tucked back in the sunflowers in my garden and when I snapped this he was less than a second from taking off in pursuit of another hummer. You can see the defensive posture and open beak (he was squeaking like mad).

A couple of interesting facts about ruby-throated hummingbirds ... their legs are too short to allow them to walk or even to hop, so they either perch or fly. And, this species of hummer doesn't have a song - their primary vocalization is a high pitched chirp that is usually in response to another hummer who's gotten too close.

If you'd like to see some Tufted Titmice, a pensive young blue jay and a couple of tiny things, I've posted five other photos on Flickr, starting HERE

Good news! We got the townhouse in Seminole, FL! Yep, Hubs is now in possession of the keys and I spent time this morning calling the utilities to get things switched to our name. Woohoo! So glad to have this particular item off our To Do list. The townhouse is adjacent to Lake Seminole, a wildlife and recreation area which should be great for me. Also very close to the Pinellas Trail which will be excellent for Hubs who likes to take his bicycle out on weekends. Can't wait to get there this weekend and explore!

Now, let's keep those good thoughts coming that we eventually get a buyer for our house in NJ. One way or the other, I'm moving by the first part of October!

Thanks for sending yesterday's dancing hummer to the spotlight where she kept excellent company for awhile.

Three more sleeps...
