The Big Island Awaits

Today saw the end of our time here on Kauai as we flew to the Big Island of Hawaii. We have had an amazing time here and hope to return again someday.

Unfortunately there are no direct flights from Kauai to the Big Island so we had to go through Honolulu again. I snapped this picture as we were flying over Maui. Maui is the island in the distance. The island in the foreground is Kaho‘olawe, which is an island reserve.

We arrived on the Big Island by mid-afternoon and drove to the bed and breakfast that we booked for the first two nights here.

After coming from Kauai, known as the Garden Isle, the Big Island was a bit of a shock. The landscape could not have been any more different. But still beautiful in its own right.

We flew into the Kona airport on the west shore and our B&B was in the Captain Cook area ….. about a 30 minute drive. After checking in with the owners, Mary and Bob, and getting situated in our room, we headed back out to get something to eat and see some sights. We found a beautiful bay and watched the sunset. Lovely way to end the day.

Happy Birthday, Mom!
