Lerwick harbour

A wild night and morning with storm force winds and driving rain led us to seek more "urban" amusements today. After a visit to Scalloway, the ancient capital of the Shetland Islands (can recommend the small museum - very well done on the history, economy, etc. but also the "Shetland bus" operation during World War II), we headed to Lerwick.

The town centre is pleasantly pedestrian and the harbour was 'bustling' with cruise boats and oil industry traffic, including surprisingly a mammoth vessel from China. Despite the traffic, the water in the old town was crystal clear with the traditional harbour houses sitting almost in the port, as in this shot.
