Neues Museum

After a day of wandering around we had a day of education today (whilst still walking all day). We considered going to see the David Bowie exhibition but were too late for an online ticket and couldn't face the queue. So we wandered on from the Gropius Bau along the former wall and ended up looking at parts of the "Topography of Terror" exhibition. The bit we looked at was all about the fate of Warsaw during the war. It was deeply impressive and left we feeling rather angry. How come people committed those atrocities, what drove them, what suspended their civilisation. And most importantly What can we do to make sure this doesn't happen again. I also ended up with the niggling feeling that it is happening already.

Somewhat stunned we continued on and found nice Vietnamese place for lunch. Then we joined the smaller queue for tickets for the Neue Museum. We checked out the prehistoric collection which was very impressive. We also stopped to look at the bust of Nofretete, the highlight of the museum.

We considered the cinema but went for a lovely dinner instead. More walking was involved.

We have been coming semi-regularly to Berlin during the last 10 years and things have changed. We both had the feeling that there are a lot more young tourists (in particular English-speaking) than before. Although maybe there was a certain bias in the past when we also had the boys in tow. In short there were more places we thought were very commercial and internationally samey. Still there are still plenty of places that are very funky. Maybe we are just getting old....
