Hummingbird moth??

I've heard folks in these parts talk about hummingbird moths, or moth hummingbirds. I think I saw my first one ever.
I was minding my own business, settling in to my Adirondack chair, and I almost swatted it because I thought it was a wasp. But there it was, having dinner in the Verbena.
