USS Essex (LHD 2) & USS Chancellorsville (CG 62)

7/30/2014 ~ USS Essex (LHD 2, U.S. Navy) & USS Chancellorsville (CG 62, U.S. Navy) are part of the Seafair Fleet Week and today's parade into the Port of Seattle. As viewed from the 9th Floor of the Ninth & Jefferson Building at Harborview Medical Center.

USS Essex stretches 844 feet in length and almost 186 feet high. It has 1,426 compartments, two propellers both 16 feet in diameter and two rudders. Each of its two anchors weights 40,000 lbs, and the craft can reach speeds of 24 plus knots.

USS Chancellorsville carries guided missiles and rapid-fire cannons, with anti-air, anti-surface and anti-subsurface capabilities. She also carries two Seahawk Light airborne multi-purpose system helicopters, focused on anti-submarine warfare.

Seafare time of year here in Seattle and the marine parades, land parades and the blue angels and other aircraft doing air shows on the weekend. Then there will be the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane tour racing taking place this weekend.

Lots of sunshine and high temperatures are on the horizon, as well as another beautiful day here in Seattle today.
