Met up with one of my college roommates for lunch, and had some sense slapped into me.
Her daughter, a very smart, likeable, and together 16-year-old, hasn't gone to school for the last year. Not because of any mistake she made, but because of illness, they have good reason to believe a Bartonella co-infection with Lyme disease, to which she reacted very badly (neurological symptoms, chronic fatigue, acute fevers etc.), likely due to a tick bite.
Imagine not knowing what future, let alone what cognitive function your kid has. Fortunately the cognitive function is still there. Hope the future is too.
