The Light Room

Marvellous Minsmere

This, my second visit to RSPB Minsmere, was a great day despite the persistent drizzle coming in from the sea. Last time I visited was in November, a few years ago and was dazzled by murmurations and dwarfed by the long dried-out reeds. This time the weather suppressed some of the wildlife but was still able to see (amongst others) Marsh Harriers, Hobbys, Egrets and one flying Bittern. Above, you can see part of the Visitors Centre, with the sand banks and Sand Martins darting in and out. The new Springwatch 'HQ' is there to see too and in the afternoon I was pleased once again to be joined by a friend and RSPB volunteer, who is local to the area. RSPB Minsmere is blessed with a truly diverse range of species. The café is must visit too, wonderful food!
