Potter Trilogy. Leitz Elmar-V 65mm, Bellows II

I didn't anticipate that the old Potter flute would yield so much Blippable material.
Once I started to look at it closely I noticed many wonderful details which needed exploring under the macro lens. Today's Blip is the maker's stamp on the head joint of the instrument. A quick visit to Google Maps reveals that Johnson's Court runs off of Fleet Street and the restored house of Dr. Samuel Johnson, the famous lexicographer, is situated there. Hence the name? This must have been a pretty toney neighborhood even in the late 18th century. I'd say Old Man Potter was doing okay for a flute maker... When I first looked with an unassisted eye at this stamp, I thought that the double strike of the first "P" of Potter was to make it stand out. But a closer look shows that the "O" was also struck twice with the stamp. This is clearly a mistake and the apprentice who was so clumsy was probably whipped. On the other hand, maybe old Potter himself was the clumsy one, and, of course, since he was the Master, he could do as he pleased. Such a slip seems out of place with the fine workmanship of the keys and ivory turnings. Interesting to ponder though...
