Damsons

Heavy on the branch,
Clothed with rich purple lustre,
Bitter sweet promise.

...... spotted these hanging over our back fence today. Not ripe yet, but well on the way. They look as though they will be juicy and sweet, but damsons are generally too sharp to eat raw .... so they may get turned into jam, or chutney, or even damson gin (a bit like Sloe gin). Apparently, you can also use them to make a wine which tastes a bit like port .... the possibilities are endless ....
....alternatively I could leave them for the birds....
