Castle Chaloen

A beautiful castle in Oud Valkenburg.

The rectangular castle is built of limestone and dates from the 14th century. Then it was slightly smaller. In the next century is extensive, but almost completely destroyed by fire in 1575. On the map of Jacob van Deventer in 1550, the castle with attribution Sloenes be seen in its current form clearly. In the middle is a tower with an extension as input. On two sides is a wing built. The guerite towers date from the 16th century. It is surrounded by a wide moat.
