TERRIFIC TORNADO

Our first visit to The Bluebell Railway on their first ever Summer Steam Gala. We took Elliot with us – never too soon to educate an 11 month old into steam trains – and he took a real shine to this engine – Tornado was completed in 2009 at Darlington and is down here for a holiday - just like us !

Tornado, engine number 60163, is a brand new A1 engine. Originally there were 49 Peppercorn Class A1 steam engines, designed by Arthur H Peppercorn, who was the last Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Eastern Railway- LNER. They were designed as express passenger steam locomotives.

A grand sight indeed as it pulls into East Grinstead.
