Externsteine, Teutobergerwald

The Externsteine ​​a sandstone formation in the Teutoburg Forest in Germany, not far from the city of Detmold. The formation consists of several long stone, abruptly rising from the hilly landscape. The stones are made ​​of sandstone and are formed in the Cretaceous period, about 120 million years ago. This attraction in North Rhine-Westphalia as a natural monument alone impressive, but there is still a mystery to this rock formation connected. This is due to traces of human use from the Middle Ages, possibly even from the prehistoric, on its back.
