Was it Bill or Was It Ben?

There is something exciting about foraging around a new garden, particularly when there are over-grown areas that appear not to have been touched for over two decades. Our little grand-daughter was delighted yesterday to find a stone hedgehog hiding behind a wall, which even superseded the much loved bunny in her affections for the space of a few hours.
Husband unearthed this little flowerpot man this afternoon. It reminded me of one of my favourite television programmes I watched as a small child, "Bill and Ben The Flowerpot Men." This was broadcast for about 20 years starting at some point in the 1950s. For those not from the UK it had a very strange and simplistic storyline that revolved around two flowerpot men, Bill and Ben who lived n a garden, behind a potting shed. The third character was Little Weed, of indeterminate species, somewhat resembling a sunflower or dandelion with a smiling face, growing between two large flowerpots who only ever squeaked "Weeeeeeeeed`" While the "man who worked in the garden" was away having his dinner the two Flower Pot Men, Bill and Ben, emerged from the two flowerpots. After a minor adventure a small mishap would occur. "Which of those two flower pot men is guilty, was it Bill or was it Ben?" the narrator would trill, The villain would confess; the gardener's footsteps would be heard coming up the garden path; the Flower Pot Men would quickly vanish into their pots and the final punch-line was, Little Weed will say nothing but I think the little house knew something about it! Don't you?"
