The pen simply means he has the freedom to roam around the stables and out in the yard. We could let him out in the whole property but at some point he would no doubt start on the bedding plants.

Don't think he was to blame, rather one of his companions and probably the white one, who broke down the fencing around the veg patch a few nights ago and stole three lettuces, enjoyed three cauliflowers and the tops of many radishes and as "Afters" cropped half a dozen rasberry plants.
