The final hurdle...

This is Great George Street, in Glasgow's west end. It was part of the route of the men's cycling road race, which I think was the final event in the Commonwealth Games.

It was a perfect vantage point, as the best way to see the peloton is as they climb a steep hill. Otherwise, they're travelling so quickly - a sight to behold in itself - that they whizz by in a blur.

I've blipped about the gladiators of the cycling world before but, if four gruelling hours in the saddle at full steam ahead isn't enough, they had to endure rain that only us lucky enough to live in Scotland would recognise.

This blip was taken on the last of 12 laps and the pain etched on the cyclist's faces told a tale only a select few could tell.

As the final hurdle of the Commonwealth Games is cleared, I'm left with many, many great memories of a city and its people that rose magnificently to the occasion and a group of athletes who have left me inspired and sometimes speechless in their endeavour.

Chapeau - as the cycling world says.

Today outof10? An inspirational 10 ❤️
