Hammering

nails into grass? Well, yes and no. Hammering a nail, yes but into artificial turf.

This is nearly the last part of laying artificial turf. More pics.

The process began with spreading, tamping down and leveling pea-gravel over smoothed ground. Laying the turf is very much like laying carpet, it needs to be stretched, trimmed and, as shown here, not glued but nailed into place. Finally fine sand is sprinkled over the turf to add weight to help hold it in place.

I started the day groggily but after doing a bit of gardening, weeding and cutting real grass and going to recycle cardboard boxes before picking up mail I felt better . . .
