Armoured knights of the national grid

Early morning start but then again Dawn is getting later by the day now surely winter cant be round the corner already I'm only just getting used to a bit of sun.
Todays blip shows the iconic national grid pylon (Milliken pylon) which may be changing a lot quicker than we think.
Skeletal giants, armoured knights of the National Grid, a regiment of electricity pylons has marched across our landscapes for the past 80 years, has it really been that long?. There are those who find these many-armed steel masts daunting, brutal and even loathsome I find they draw me into their spider like webs especially on wet damp days when they hum and crackle as you walk under them. There are 88000on plus pylons in the UK with @ 22000 on the national grid distribution network in England and Wales I only know this because in 2011 the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) - for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and National Grid - launched a competition to invite architects, designers, engineers and students of these disciplines to rethink one of the most crucial but controversial features of modern Britain: the electricity pylon, and the new version do look a lot less obtrusive but I suspect it will be a long time coming before the current ones need to be taken down - if it works don't fix it
