Cursed pond?

Second visit to a local pond. Bit disappointing, it's an old farm pond (now next to modern houses), nice and big, so had great hopes for some interesting pond-life. First visit it rained almost as soon as I parked the car, this time better, sunny off-and-on, but very little life in what looks like a lovely lush green oasis. The flowers in the front are Pickerel Weed, the frilly stuff behind i think is Parrot Feather, an alien invasive weed. Saw a couple of dragonfly & Damsels, but too far away & fast to get aproper look. Maybe I'll be 3rd time lucky later in the month.
