The Lozarithm Lens

Marlborough

I had an afternoon in Marlborough to do some bits of business and took a free takeaway cappuccino from Waitrose to sit beside the Kennet at Kennet Place and watch the ducks, the ripples and reflections on the water. There is another branch of the river behind a sheltered housing development, reached by a footpath between the houses, and this is where I saw my water vole on a previous visit. I've been back a couple of times since but have not seen it again. Beyond the river lies Cooper's Meadow, currently home to some local Wiltshire Horn ewes and their lambs, whose grazing prevents the dominance of meadowsweet, thistles and nettles and is part of a management plan to help the diversity and proliferation of wildflowers. The meadow is enclosed by a smaller river called the River Og that flows into the Kennet.

This picture was taken from the path in front of the meadow looking eastwards back along the Kennet, the narrow section further away being the water vole haunt, right in front of the houses.
