A Day to Say Goodbye

I was in church today. Not being a catholic this was only the third time I have been inside; the two previous occasions were for a funeral (Tony Parkes) and a wedding so many years ago I can't recall!

The liturgy is not that dissimilar to that used by the CoE but you do need to keep your eye on the small print and the congregation have to sit and stand at different points in the service.

The other thing that struck me was the lack of any personal touch; we learnt very little about Margaret beyond her love of the church (she as a very faithful member of the congregation) and her wartime service in the WRAF where she packed parachutes and played in the band as a drummer (although you wouldn't have known that last bit unless you knew Margaret).

Hadn't realised that their Parish Priest, Fr Steven Purnell had previously been ordained in the CoE but resigned in 1993 and was one of a small group who made the change from Canterbury to Rome.
