The sun bird finally posed for me so I could take a pic ! They are related to the humming bird , only feeding on nectar . They aren't quite as fast and a little bigger and they aren't native Australian but originate from Thailand . With the similar climate here in nth qld they have migrated here very happily . This one is the female and the male has a iridescent navy blue chest , he is much harder to get a photo of cause he is usually up higher keeping an eye on things protecting his mate and babies. He does however help out with the feeding and teaching them to fly and leave the nest. These little birds like to build their nest on patios and verandas as they feel better protected from bigger birds by being close to humans. Their nest are built with twigs,leaves etc stuck with nectar and are built to survive cyclones!
