Living in Brabant

Taken at the flood

Today we walked into town, past the 'Gleneagles Hotel', the inspiration for Fawlty Towers, and into Torquay.
It was overcast but the weather wasn't too inclement.

We were planning to take the steam boat out to 'Greenway', Agatha Christie's summer home.

But the boats weren't running, due to the bad weather. What bad weather?

So we decided to go by bus, then catch the steam train (which was wonderful, dad, and his father, would have loved it), and walk the rest of the way.

By the time we'd reached the steam train it was bucketing down. What rain? That rain! Oh....
The walk from the train station to Greenway itself was lovely, a rather enchanted forest, up and down gentle hills, along the well-marked paths.

Greenway was lovely, we must have sepnt about 3 hours in total; walking around the house, then the gardens (in the rain), including the boathouse, from where this photograph was taken (an episode of 'Poirot' was filmed here in 2012).

Then, back to the hotel for a warm bath, and dinner.
