Indian Pipes

Each year these fairly rare plants show up under the same tree on my walk with the dog to get the paper. Indian pipe (monotropa unifolia) is also called ghost plant or corpse plant. They always grow in woods next to tree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5MZAB7ZEOQ See this video for more info. It is a parasite dependent on the fungus that is in the roots of particular trees. Native Americans used a tea for aches & pains. But poisonous in large doses.
