The Home Place

Kent went into work this morning as he usually does on Saturdays and I did a few things about the house before the rains started. Since it was to be a rainy afternoon we decided it was a good day to head into Kinston for Kent to go to Stadiums to get some new shirts for work.

We then nipped down to Deep Run and stopped at Keith's and at Jerry's (his brothers) then drove over by the home place and saw his sister Pat and then Jeff (his brother).

We then headed home so we would get there before dark. We had gotten alerts on our phones that some of the roads in Hampstead (15 miles from our house) were closed due to flooding and some of the houses were flooded. When we got home we found it wasn't so bad in our neck of the woods. Still not looking forward to the heavy rains tonight and tomorrow.

FYI - The home place, built in 1905 by Pinkney Tyndall (Kent's grandfather).
Kent's father, Prentice Tyndall (1 of 13 children) was born in this house.
Originally the kitchen was separate from the rest of the house and was attached to the rest of the house in later years.
There was no indoor plumbing until 1968.
Kent and his 4 siblings grew up in this house.
Although his father passed away in 1976, his mother continued to live here until her passing in 2012 and all major holidays were celebrated by the family in this house. It was nothing for there to be 80 people squashed into the house to eat at Thanksgiving and Christmas! Christmas is still celebrated here at the home place.
