A Little Street Music

Sidewalk jam session, part of the 37th annual Musical Saw Festival. This trio came all the way from Japan for the festivities, which culminate in a musical contest tomorrow morning. Nearly two dozen musicians came together with their instruments downtown, in the shadow of the Tom Scribner statue: saws of all types, guitars, banjo, harmonicas, mandolin, violin, pennywhistle, accordion. In the background was the percussion of the roving poet, who sat at a typewriter on the periphery of this musical happening, clicking and clacking his way through spontaneous verse. Santa Cruz at its very best.

I finally figured out how to upload this short video. It'll give you an idea of what was happening. In the first few frames you can see the Scribner statue and the Penny Ice Creamery kiosk.
