Goldenballs

Well the day finally arrived, and Beckham finally arrived in the US. The build up and the hype surrounding his arrival has been crazy, and has even had broadcasters comparing it to the arrival of the Beatles. I'm not joking!!!!!
Anyway, although not being a big fan of his as a player, I do have a lot of respect for the guy as a an individual. As for his introduction to US soccer, it was almost presidential, which is rather scary in itself, but with the money invested in him to lift the game stateside, I sort of understand it.
He has a big job to do and I honestly believe he will go some way to lifting the game here.
Contrary to popular belief, Fitba in the US is hugely popular, although it is at the youth level. The problem is transcending it to the College and Professional ranks. And trust me those who don't know, the College Sport scene is just as popular as the Pro Scene. Part of the problem is the main sports America have are for a select few, meaning if you are not almost 7ft tall, you can't play basketball as a career, or not over 250lb you won't make it in football, you're not strong enough to hit 50 home runs a season, baseballs out, which helps spawn the whole steroids abuse problem, which dogs so many pro athletes. Now I know these are loose arguments, and doesn't apply to everyone, I'm simply giving an outsiders view on it.
Football is the game where size doesn't matter and everyone can play, and getting that through to the kids in America, that you don't have to follow the 4 main sports to make it as a pro, is Beckhams goal.
Good luck sir, you are going to need it.
