Calgary

Despite yet another rainy start (according to the Rough Guide, Mull is the rainiest of the Scottish Islands), we set off optimistically for Calgary Beach on the west coast and were rewarded with much improved weather overall. We even went paddling, despite the fact that the sea was the colour of Irn Bru (it's the peat, apparently - the water in our cottage is spring water and has a distinctly brownish tinge.) Calgary is very beautiful and, as well as a fabulous stretch of perfect sandy beach in a stunning Highland setting, it has a cool bit of woodland full of sculpture and a cafe that sells great cake! We'll probably be back later in the week when the sun comes out properly... Later on we drove down into Tobermore and ate very good fish and chips from the van on the pier (the first chip van I've ever seen with a Les Routiers sign - we'll probably be back there too!) Music: Camera Obscura.
