Shattered

Today we drove down to the Johnston Ridge Observatory at Mount St Helens. It has been 34 years since this volcano erupted, killing 57 people and spreading ash,eventually, clear around the world. It inundated the Toutle River, obliterated Spirit Lake, blew down trees as big as 8 feet in diameter. The column of ash released rose 12 miles into the sky. This shattered tree is inside the building and stands as a message about the forces of Nature. Humans are such puny little beings.
