Over the Horizon

Across the Sulu Sea

It was a long and late wait to board, but once on our big inter-island ferry was comfortable enough. At least more so than being crammed into a jeepney on gutted bone-rattling roads. Or risking our lives against the straights in a leaky fisherman's boat.

We whiled away our time snoozing on our bunks, reading and occasionally going up on deck to catch the sea air. When dawn came the faint craggy ridges of the Calamanian Islands appeared mysteriously through the fog. We had arrived.
