Glasgow Necropolis

Built on hill near the cathedral, with views over the city, the necropolis was created to be "respectful to the dead, safe and sanitary to the living, dedicated to the genius of memory and to extend religious and moral feeling to the people of Glasgow" (!)

Its high exposed position gives it a very gothic atmosphere, even more so on a grey, wet and windy day like today.

Really impressed with Glasgow. There is a lot of interesting architecture, much Victorian grandeur, wide, sweeping, tree-lined streets. Lots of nice places to eat and its true what was said throughout the Commonwealth Games - the people are very welcoming and friendly.
