Sgwarnog: In the Field

Humber

We started my two week summer break with a couple of days in Hull.

To avoid the worst of the after effects of Hurricane Bertha we began our visit by taking shelter in The Deep, ironically the driest place in the city. It seems the entire population of East Yorkshire had the same idea, so our advice on this matter is not to save this particular attraction for a rainy day - go when it's fine. While we wandered tunnels of reinforced glass a tornado was ripping through streets a short distance away.

This scene back up the Humber is afforded by The Deep's viewing platform; the low light and docks slick with rain enhancing the atmosphere. And of course the Humber Bridge, for twenty years at the end of the last century the world's longest single span suspension bridge.
