Shark Week.

At work the Education and Marine Sciences teams work tirelessly to try and give people a better understanding of our marine life.

But every time there is a shark attack, which is very rare, there is a kind of hysteria which makes any local council rush out and want to kill all the sharks in the sea.

The fact that more of us are likely to be killed in a car accident than eaten by a shark, never seems to come into the equation.

Most people here don't want to see the sharks killed, after all the sea is their territory.

Very few people are killed by sharks every year, but 70 million sharks are killed by us. An astonishing number.

So next time you think about eating a piece of flake, rock salmon, or skate think of the poor sharks, and have something else instead.
