Rome bound

Finally as it does the day dawned where we were off on holiday - to Italy! Although flying this year meant that we were not facing a two day road trip to our destination - it still involved cars / planes / buses / trains and walking but then we were there - by 2pm - eight hours after we drove away from our house - brilliant. Normally we would still be battling with the M6 car park!

Rome - a place that I have wanted to visit, well forever and here we are. We settled into our apartment on the jaw dropping beautiful street of Via Margutta, drank with enthusiasm from the water fountain outside, indulged in the most delicious ice cream, bounced down the Spanish Steps, expressed our dismay at the Trevi fountain (scaffolded and dry!) and explored and marvelled at the Cemetery of the Capucins (who knew how artistic one could be with bones?!) before a quick stop for pizza in the wall, a cold beer and home to rest. It is hot and we all had little sleep last night...

Tomorrow is Ancient Rome - and thanks to the children's love of the 39 Steps series - I have a tribe of mini guides!

Sienna was extremely nervous of flying - since she was last in a plane when she was two but thankfully listening to Horrid Henry and making loom bracelets took her mind off it all - too much inadvertent news listening of the tragic plane crashes of late...poor kid
