A concrete love affair

By PhotoIain

From your loving Brother,

This afternoon was spent awaiting a delivery with my Grandma at her house. While there we found ourselves looking through lots of really wonderful old photographs, some over 90 years old, so many long lost family memories were unearthed.

Most poignantly we discovered a large number of letters from my late Great Uncle whom, very sadly, did not survive the war. He was in his early twenties and went missing mere months before VE Day.

The letters are so warm, loving and poignant; a kind young man missing his sisters, parents, fiancé and home. Questions about the village cricket team, the garden in summer and of the films being shown at the local cinema belie the world they were written in.

Really moving for me to read with the knowledge of all the years ahead; so much loss - he has missed so very much - he is missed so very much.
