You say eggplant...

I say aubergine! That's been one of the adjustments we made when we moved to Canada from England... naming vegetables.

I wonder why Canada chose to call this vegetable an eggplant and not aubergine? Eggplant sounds more English than aubergine somehow. Then there's the zucchini or courgette. Canada preferred the more exotic sounding zucchini over the French sounding courgette. Finally, there's the herb (or urb as it's pronounced) coriander (English) and cilantro (Canadian).

One day I will track down some theories on how these names arose, but for now I will celebrate the differences.
