Grande Ronde

I went to a powwow at the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde Community today. Over 20 Tribes and bands of native people from western Oregon and northern California were relocated to the Grande Ronde reservation in the 1850's. Tribes included the Rogue River, Umpqua, Chasta, Kalapuya, Mollala, Salmon River, Tillamook and Nestucca.

The dancers were amazing to watch and the drumming provided a powerful rhythm to which they moved in perfect timing to the beat.
