Crop

It was very bright and sunny when we headed up to the allotment, although with a very stiff breeze. There was lots of produce to collect including a huge bag of french beans and a couple of marrow-sized courgettes. Then when I gave our neighbour Willie some broad bean seeds for autumn sowing he reciprocated by giving us a large number of lettuces and some nice white turnips. Vegetables definitely on the menu this week.

These planters with small trees in were placed at the Maritime Lane junction when the repairs were done to Constitution Street - the more distant one has the normal sort of municipal ground cover/cotoneaster type stuff round the base of the tree, but this one, outside the Port o' Leith pub, has a flourishing crop of tomatoes, potatoes, mint, strawberries and even a small rhubarb plant! CanCarrier has blipped a bit of local guerilla flower gardening , but this is the first time I've seen a food crop.

(Hey, just noticed that Maritime Lane is incorrectly labelled as Mitchell Street on the blip-map!)
