A Day Out in Carlisle

We took the train to Carlisle (via Settle) today to take part in the Carlisle Urban Race. It was a most enjoyable day out, not least because of its separate parts.

On the train I tuned in to two different conversations:
'He does seem like he's a human being does Portillo, rest of 'em aren't'

'Study for this, study for that, it takes bloody three years to do owt!'

'You're missing all of this. You ought to be looking out of the window.'

'They ought to have these stations in kit form and just adapt 'em to the place.'

'Have you been to Skipton? It's still like Leeds, but on the edge of the Dales, quite a nice shopping place.'

'He's dropped right out of it, an't he?

'If he hadn't resigned he'd have been extracised.' (Love that one!) I know more about it but I'm not saying.'

'And that's the canal'...'No it isn't!'...'Are you sure?'

'Very interesting signal box, very interesting.'

'I knew she'd been on a cruise at Christmas....you what?...a cruise to New Zealand.'

'I used to like these arabesques.'

'I think they've been handed down and then put away in a box.. She expected to get, I don't know, about 50p for them.'

When we arrived in Carlisle station, an advert was being filmed in which lots of people walked down the platform with assorted items from Homebase! Hence today's blip!

The orienteering wasn't too bad either.
