Left field

Mono Monday shot using Noir filter in iPhone camera.

Is this a closeup of prairie grass under a starry sky?

No, it's square patch of sidewalk weeds in bright sunlight with a speckled asphalt background.

I felt as though I didn't accomplish anything today, but then I remembered that I made a drawing and the drawing led to a poem and the poem was incorporated into a collage and I'm not done yet. This journal art was personal and I don't intend to post it, but the process was highly satisfying and, in a way, healing. The process is wonderfully described in a poem I found in The New Yorker and pasted on the first page of my new journal.

BEGINNING

In the beginning,
in the list of begats,
one begat
got forgot:
work begets work
(one poem
bears
the next).
In other words,
once there was air,
a bird could be got.
Not taken.
Not kept.
But conjured up.
