Bomber Command Memorial, London

Bravery exists in many forms. My great Uncle Tom flew throughout the Second World War. He was the bravest man I knew and probably the luckiest. I adored him. He was easy to love.

There is no glory in killing. Mankind deserves so much more. And yet when duty calls and evil spits in your face, then it is men like my uncle who set up my freedoms.

55,573 allied airman died, countless others injured and goodness knows how many killed by the dropped bombs.

I dedicate this blip to my dear Uncle Tom and also the mother who cradled her children as the bombs dropped around her.
