The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Glossy Ibis - Frampton Marshes

Our uncanny luck on being in the right place at the right time for an ornithological story happened again today.

Our first stroke of luck was calling in Slimbridge when the Common Cranes hatched their first chicks there back on May 19th. This time Glossy Ibis made the news. A pair tried to make a nest at Frampton Marsh, it is thought to be the first breeding attempt in the UK. We were always popping down there this afternoon after visiting the family members we hadn't seen so far.

There was a small crowd of people there to see the star attraction. It was showing very well. Alas for this poor males efforts had been spurned and the female had flown off, and was now in Norfolk.

We had a lovely hour or so there before we had to head back as we were going down to Peterborough to watch the Panthers take on the Ipswich Witches in a local derby. I met up with Gavin Elliot, a twitter friend, which was in keeping with the whole of the last 5 days of re-acquaintances ...

It wasn't a bad nights speedway, and nice way to end off this stay. We are heading home tomorrow as we have a game of petanque to play in the evening. It's all go isn't it!

All the photos from the day are up on Flickr should you like to have a gander.
