Through Toi Toi

I love the look of Toi Toi (Maori spelling is actually Toetoe).
It is a native grass that most New Zealanders are very familiar with.
It is often confused with giant Pampas grass which was introduced to NZ and is now classified as a weed.
Toi Toi flowers in spring and summer but the Pampas weed flowers in autumn.
The creamy, feathery plumes look beautiful against a blue sky and it's foliage falls softly and gracefully around the plumes.
We planted a drain bank in Toi Toi many years ago to help with erosion but now this is the only remaining clump.

The difference between
a flower and a weed
is a judgement.
